New Edition: My first sandbox!

Alright! My first “New Edition” post!! ūüėÄ

If you’ve been following along so far, you would have heard me mention a few times that this blogs is to document my completed North American My Little Pony collection and my misc. pony related merchandise.

After getting the last pony, I decided to stop collecting…..

HAHAHA! AS IF!! Yeah, right. Work this hard for more years then I can count to collect all the ponies, to make a room JUST for them, to hand re-create / repair their clothing, to repair and clean the ponies themselves and now I’m just going to stop it all now?? No way!!! ūüėģ

So, what IS the next step in the MLP collection you say?¬† Well… that would be… accessories!!¬† Not so much worried about brushes and ribbons,¬† but if a pony came with a barrette, or a toy of some sort, I would like to add that item to their displays.

So while posting about what I have in the Pony Room, or posting MLP random information, I will have a post for whenever I get a hold of a new accessories.

And now…. for today’s new edition! My very first sandbox accessory. ūüėģ

Pony & Pals accesory

My first sandbox!!! ‚̧

This particular (blurry) sandbox is purple. At least I’m assuming it’s ¬†purple.¬† There is always that annoying chance that it was a faded color accesory. Sometimes just a slight fade can leave you scratching your head for a bit while trying to track down the correct info. >.< ¬†So…going with the purple sandbox, it could belong to ¬†either year 6 (1987-1988) Newborn Twins Big Top & Toppy or it could go to Baby Ponies & Pony Pals set from year 7 (1988-1989)

I went “EENIE MEENIE MINEY MOE!” and the lucky pony set that gets the purple sandbox is…. Baby Pony Stripes and Pony Pal baby Nectar the panda!

Baby Stripes & Baby Nectar¬† come from the awkward-looking Baby Ponies & Pony Pals set. The pony pals are the awkward¬† part…. They are baby animals whose colors and symbols match the baby ponies. Sounds cute, but they are some strange looking guys.¬† ūüėģ¬†¬† I personally think the cutest one, would just so happen to be… Baby Nectar, the blue and white Panda!

Baby Ponies & Pony Pals came out as a 2 pack set.  Both the baby pony and the pal look similar in colors and they share the same logo.

This 2 pack came out after set 1 and set 2 of Pony¬†Friends… which was JUST the animal.

The full Baby Ponies & Pony Pals set list:

  • Baby Fleecy & Baby Woolley the Lamb
  • Baby Lucky Leaf & Baby leafy the Calf
  • Baby Pockets & Baby Hoppy the Kangaroo
  • and of course, Baby Stripes & Baby Nectar the Panda

My Baby Ponies & Pony Pals set sit on a corner shelf right above the playground of the¬†Lullaby¬†Nursery Playset. It’s a tight squeeze though. ¬†I don’t have many of the¬†accessories¬†for this set so far. ¬†When I eventually track down more, I might have to move these guys off to a shelf that has more room! D: That would suck!

G1 Bubble Bath

Hi there! It’s Ami again. ¬†ūüôā

Today I wanted to talk about My Little Pony Bubble bath for Generation 1 (that’s what the first 80s to early 90s ponies are called, in case you didn’t know ¬†).

My Little Pony has a TON of merchandise. Lunch box, banks, sticker, etc. ¬†I love to collect MLP merchandise just as much as I love to collect the ponies themselves. ¬† There are tons of sites and books to help id your ponies, but not a lot of sites or guides for the other MLP products. ¬†For whatever reason, there just isn’t much info around. ¬†I’m sure there are still items out there that you or I have never even seen. ¬†Not to mention if there is a¬†variant¬†of that item! ¬†I know I feel like every day I find something that I didn’t even know¬†existed¬†the day before and I’ve been a fan of MLP for 25 years, so…. exactly.

Well, as I said up there *points to the start of the post* the items I wanted to talk about today …. are the MLP Bubble Baths for G1.

Now, my info is rather limited itself… so if anyone wants to add some input, by all means please post it! ūüôā

The most common G1 bubble bath containers that a fan might see around would be the type that comes in a bottle the shape of a pony! ¬†It’s¬†defiantly¬†MY personal fave type. ¬†ūüôā ¬†It gives the item personality and¬†obviously¬†it would make bath time that much more fun.

I only have one of these containers. ūüė¶ ¬† ¬†ūüôā but I adore her!

It’s Tassels! Unscrew her head and out comes the bubble bath. ūüėģ ¬† The only markings on her, is a little date down at the base that says Hasbro 1990. And speaking of base, Tassels stands in a dark green flowery meadow.

This particular version has REAL hair to brush and comes with a pretty little ribbon in her hair.

I have seen another version of Tassels that has molded hair,¬†similar¬†body and base. I’m not sure if it is the same body or not though. ¬†I have not seen enough photos of the molded hair Tassels to know for sure. Both have printed¬†carousel¬†markings. The date for this version is also 1990. I don’t own a molded hair Tassels, but MLP fan Leonie does and she kindly allowed me to post her picture here so everyone can see the differences. ūüėÄ

Tassels with molded hair

Leonie's pony shapped bubble bath bottle- Tassels with the molded hair.

It appears that all of the pony shaped bubble bath containers came out around this time. ¬†1990 was G1: Year 9 ¬†on the MLP timeline. ¬†After the next year, the G1 MLP line would be canceled in North America. ¬†ūüė¶ ¬†Boo! ¬†Year 10 was a hard year, since the line was ending, ¬†items were getting harder to find. ¬†Some of the ponies out at this time were kind of odd, and a lot of fans at the time… well, weren’t big fans of those ponies. ¬†Slow ponies getting off the shelf = less amount the stores are going to order. ¬†Why order more of a toy that isn’t selling well? ¬†You wouldn’t. ¬† If Year 10 was scarce, how was Year 9? ¬†Well… that’s a good question. ¬†I’m not sure. ¬†I was a tween at the time, and didn’t realize at the time to look for something like that.

In any event, the pony¬†shaped¬†pony containers aren’t exactly rare, but I would classify them as hard to find. ¬†You see one around every now and then, but not really that often, you know?

Now, Tassels was a Merry-go-round pony. ¬†That set came out in G1: Year 7 ( 1988-1989). ¬†In 1990, I wonder why Tassels was choosen? ¬†Fan favorite at the time? ¬†Marketably pleasing to the eye? Don’t know.

Oh no! Her head fell off!!

I do know that the real hair pony shaped bottle made at least 1 other pony. ¬† A G1: Year 9 (hey, we are in the matching year and set this time!) Rockin’ Beat Pony named Half Note. ¬†She comes in basically the same lower half of the bottle that Tassels has. The base is the same meadowy¬†field, yet a lighter green color. I don’t know if Half Note has a molded hair version or not.

Are there other real hair pony bubble bath bottles? ¬†Don’t know that either I’m afraid. D: Aww… They’re so cute! I know.

So… that’s it for Pony bubble baths, right?

WRONG! Sit back down, we have a little more to go! ūüėģ

So far we talked about a pony shaped bubble bath bottle that has real hair, and a simular variation with molded hair. ¬†Well, there is one more type of pony shaped bubble bath bottle style! ¬†This one has no flower /meadow base. ¬†The bottle is meant to be just the pony. ¬†I don’t know if it’s because this bottle lacks a meadow base or not, but it appears to be smaller then the bottles described earlier. ¬†Date is¬†unknown¬†at the moment. ¬†The pony IS however ID’d. ¬†She is a G1: Year 6 (1988-88) ¬†Twice-as-Fancy (set 2) pony named Merriweather! ¬†A 1988 pony? Does that mean this bubble bath came out in Year 6? Or did she come out at the same time as the others, in Year 9? ¬†Sorry, don’t know. ¬†:\ ¬†But… if all the pony shaped bottles came out in the same year, wouldn’t they make all the bottles from the same molds? Why would would they make at least 2 different ponies with one bottle body style, yet have at least 1 other pony in this possible set with a¬†noticeably¬†different bottle body? Just something to think about.

Now…. we get to the last known bubble bath style for G1. ¬†I¬†personally¬†think it’s kind of boring after the fun bottle ponies, but that’s just me. ¬†ūüôā ¬† This type of bottle is the typical type of Mr. Bubble-styled bottle, only shorter. ¬†It stands about 5 to 6 inches high and holds 4 oz of bubble bath.¬†¬†White bottle and white screw on cap, with a pink label with the normal MLP rainbow logo and the date at the bottom of the label reads 1993. ¬†Wha-? 1993?? But the North American line ended in 1992! ¬†Well… what can I say…? This type of bubble bath bottle came at the very end of the line, I assume. ¬†The label makes no indication of being from the UK, so I think it is a NA release… just with horrible timing (or maybe a last hooray?). ¬† There is a pony on the¬†label¬†is a Merry-go-Round pony (Diamond Dreams) just like the very first bottle we talked about waaayyy back at the top of the post. ūüôā ¬†Why the change? Don’t know. *Shrug* ¬† Are there other ponies that made apperances on this style of bubble bath bottle? ¬†Guess what..? That’s right. Don’t know. ¬†Since it was¬†defiantly¬†the end of the line in 1993, the shelf life for any MLP bubble bath at this time would most likely ¬†be short. I would like to know more about it as well! ¬†So… that means we just keep looking around for more clues so we can solve the bubble bath mystery. ¬†ūüėģ

Well, that’s all for this post! ‚̧ ¬†Had lots of fun. Thanks to Leonie once again for the picture!¬† Until next time….

Where else do you begin, but at the beginning?

Before the ¬†official original 6 ¬†My Little Pony release by Hasbro in 1982, there was another pony in 1981 that Hasbro released. ¬†Under the Romper ¬†label brand by Hasbro, this hard plastic pony stands about ¬†11 inches high. ¬†¬†Unfortunately, this girl has no name. ¬†ūüė¶ ¬†She does however come with several accessories! ¬†The pony has a brown body color, with a light blonde color hair for her mane and tail. ¬†This pretty pony has a white mark between her eyes, down her nose. ¬†She also has large white spots on the front of her legs. ¬†No typical MLP symbol on her backside. Real eyelashes and pretty blue eyes. ¬†Just under her chin she has a little trigger. ¬†When the trigger is pulled, her ears and tail wiggle.

There is a¬†variant¬†version of the brown pony. ¬†Everything is the same except she has a white spot on both sides of her backside. ¬†Not much info is known about this variant. ¬†It’s unclear if this pony was mixed in with the non-spot brown pony, or if the spotted pony was a release that came out with a baby- MLP that would later be known as Butterscotch (though she was called Beautiful Baby for this packaged deal)!

The box for the brown My Pretty Pony showed very little resemblance to anything My Little Pony-ish. No rainbows or pastels. Hard to even seen that it was Hasbro related.  The variant Pretty pony with the spot on her backside may have come in a different box.  Somewhere around late 1981 to early 1982, the My Pretty Pony was re-released with a box that looked much more MLP-ish.  It had a rainbow long, and soft pastel colors all over the box. This re-release came with the above mentioned Beautiful Baby (Butterscoth).

At some point during the My Pretty Pony run, ¬†there was a second pony released. ¬†Her actual color varies from fan to fan. Some say she’s yellow. ¬†Others say she’s pink-ish. ¬†While others claim it’s peach colored. ¬†I happen to think she is a peach/ yellow-ish in body color. ¬†It’s not known for 100% sure if there are variations of this pony with different body colors, or if her plastic has just faded to different shades. The pony community seems very split on this. ¬†She has a group of red hearts as her symbol on both sides of her rump. ¬†Her hair was a pretty pink. ¬†She looks like a large version of ¬†Peachy. ¬†She also has no name. ūüė¶ Aww… ¬†She comes with the same¬†accessories¬†but of a different color.

I’m not sure if she came in a Romper Room box or the re-released box that looked more MLP-ish.

Short & simple…Hello!

Greetings to my new (and hopefully more active) blog! ¬†My name is Ami and this blog is about the world of little toy line called…. My Little Pony.

As a child from the 80s,  I have much love for the 80s,  especially for the toy lines and cartoons from that time.  As an adult, my hobbies and passions revolve around collecting toys from the past and present and collecting toy and cartoon related memorabilia.  From Tonner dolls to walmart Barbies.  From 90s Toy Biz X-Men action figures to Bowen Marvel Comic statues. My loving husband shares this addictive hobby as well.  You can just  imagine our entire house is filled with collectibles of all kinds! Comics, action figures, lego sets, statues, animation cels, dolls, etc.

Out of all these collectibles I enjoy, there is one franchise that stands far above all the others. The My Little Ponies. In 2006, when my husband and I moved to a better house, I decided that this franchise collection was large enough and special enough to¬†warrant¬†their own room of the house. ¬†Christened¬†the Pony room, everything MLP related that I own (with small exceptions) are gathered together in this room. ¬†The Pony room is zen. ¬†A place to relax, even though the pony room is in constant “tweak” mode. ¬†I am always moving things here or there, putting up new shelves, moving a play set here to there, or some other thing.

In early 2010, I completed a long time goal of¬†acquiring¬†all North American My Little Ponies of the generation 1 line. ¬†That hasn’t stopped me from collecting more. ¬†There are still many MLP items from all over the world to track down! ¬†I wanted to create a blog to show off the pony room, ¬†my current collection ponies, and to talk about current pony items i’m after or that have just arrived. ¬†It will probably take a while to show off everything in the pony room, but I wanted to make something fun! Not just another stuffy, boring gallery blog with no personality. ¬†I’m not the best blogger in the world, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this works out to be a fun learning¬†experience¬†and some¬†pleasant¬†MLP eye candy for myself and all the collectors/ MLP fans that stop by!
